By now you've probably heard about David Beckham's incident with LA Galaxy fans during the AC Milan friendly last week. The fan Beckham goaded into jumping over the barrier has received a lifetime ban from the Home Depot Center, but until today, Beckham had not been punished. This left fans, especially members of LA's Riot Squad supporters group, feeling cheated. They now have retribution.
While it isn't much, Beckham has been fined $1,000 for this role in the fiasco. While the fine is a mere pin prick to Beckham's 6.5 million dollar salary, it does send a message that even David Beckham is not above MLS' disciplinary standards. Beckham's fine is four times the standard yellow card suspension fine ($250), and twice the fine Brian Ching received this week for publicly criticizing referees on his personal Twitter page.
